Letter from the President

This is an exciting year for the Lynchburg Academy of Medicine. We started the year with our annual meeting with Centra to welcome all of the new physicians to the area. During this meeting we presented the Barney Award to Dr. Paul Fitzgerald who has been a cornerstone of this community for years.

Following this we held our first fund-raiser with the Lynchburg Academy of Medicine Alliance, Docs Rock. We rocked out and raised over $4000. The money went to the LAM fund at the Greater Lynchburg Community Trust fund and to the LAMA nursing scholarship fund.

We have meetings planned in November, January, March and May. Our November meeting will be held at a new venue, Oakwood Country Club. Our speaker is Dr. Karen Rheuban who is s pediatric cardiologist at UVA and is the director for telemedicine. Our January meeting will feature Mr. Michael Bryant who is the new CEO for Centra. The speaker for our March meeting is Dr. Chris Pile who is a Hospice and Palliative Care physician currently practicing in Charlottesville. Our last meeting will be a combined meeting with LAMA. This will be a family picnic with activities planned for all ages.

I would like to encourage everyone to take advantage of our meetings. Bring a new physician to the area with you or encourage someone who has not attended a meeting to come.

Finally, we are still working on our website. We are striving to make a user friendly website with up to date information and links that are important for our members. All suggestions and comments are welcome.
